Strong Corrosion Resistance
Corrosion Resistance to Multiple Media: 304 stainless steel contains approximately 18% chromium and 8% nickel. This chemical composition endows it with excellent corrosion resistance in many oxidizing acids. For example, it performs outstandingly in nitric acid with a concentration of ≤65% at temperatures below the boiling point. Meanwhile, it also has relatively strong corrosion resistance in alkali solutions, most organic and inorganic acids, as well as common media such as the atmosphere, water, and steam, and is not prone to rusting.
Good Resistance to Intergranular Corrosion: Under the condition of meeting the mechanical strength requirements, its sensitivity to intergranular corrosion after welding is relatively low. Especially for derivative materials with ultra-low carbon content like 304L, by reducing the carbon content, the corrosion resistance is further improved, and it can be used to manufacture welded parts with large cross-sectional dimensions.
Good Mechanical Properties
Combination of Strength and Toughness: The tensile strength is ≥520 MPa, the yield strength under conditions is ≥205 MPa, the elongation is ≥40%, and the reduction of area is ≥60%. It has relatively high strength and good toughness, capable of withstanding a certain degree of external impact and load, maintaining good stability in different working environments, and is not prone to failure forms such as fracture.
Good Low-Temperature Performance: Under the condition of -180°C, indicators such as strength, elongation, and reduction of area can all maintain a relatively good level, and there is no obvious brittle transition temperature. Therefore, it is often used in low-temperature environments, such as in some low-temperature storage equipment, polar scientific research equipment, and other fields.
Excellent Machining Properties
Good Hot and Cold Machining Properties: It can be processed and produced into various products such as plates, tubes, wires, strips, and profiles, suitable for manufacturing parts formed by cold heading, deep drawing, and deep stretching, capable of meeting the machining requirements of different shapes and structures of components, providing convenience for manufacturing products with complex shapes, and is widely used in industries such as automobile manufacturing and machining.
Good Welding Properties: Usual welding methods can be adopted for welding, and no heat treatment is required before or after welding. The strength and tightness of the welded joints can meet the engineering requirements, ensuring that the overall performance of the stainless steel block after welding is not affected, and it can be used to manufacture various structural members and equipment that require welding connections.
High Surface Quality and Cleanliness
Smooth and Aesthetic Surface: After appropriate treatment, the surface finish is relatively high, without obvious scale, rust, pits, scratches, and other defects, having good appearance quality, which not only improves the aesthetics of the product but also reduces the adhesion of dust and dirt during use, making it easy to clean and maintain.
